This Library is very old by its foundation. It was initially established as the College of Agriculture Library in 1907. It was later renamed as the Institute of Agriculture Library in 1967. Lastly in the year 1975, it was finally established as the University Central Library of Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture & Technology, Kanpur.
 
The library has a good collection of literature, comprising 64300 books, 4481 research  periodicals, 474 Ph.D. thesis, 1903 Post Graduate dissertations and other reference  materials. Presently we are providing reading facilities to approximately 3,000 readers  including students, teachers/scientist, staff, visitors and outsiders etc. It is in the process of  modernization, computerization and sophistication. The library has already purchased and  installed computers with printers, photocopying machine and air conditioners etc. It is  going to start abstracting search services and content page service through the electronic  media. AKMU has also provided Internet connectivity to the Library through V-SAT. 
 
 
 Books & Periodicals Procurement
 
During 2000-01, 978 books and 21 foreign periodicals, 53 Indian periodicals and during 2001-02, 1000 books and 21 foreign periodicals and 45+5 (Agroforestry) periodicals have been procured by the library.
 

 News Papers and Magazines
 
This Library procures 12 newspapers - 6 in Hindi and 6 in English. It also subscribes to 23 competitive magazines for the benefit of our students. Many complimentary and free copies of newspapers, magazines, pamphlets etc. regularly come in the library, and are properly displayed for the readers.   

 Reference Section
 
 Being one of the oldest library, it is full of various types of reference sources like  encyclopaedias, various types of dictionaries, gazetteers, Agricultural and Statistical  records/reports etc. At present we are providing oral reference service to at least 15-20  persons daily.
