    Economic Botanist (Legumes)

Legume Section of C.S.A. University is one of the oldest and premier pulses improvement centers of the country. The research work on pulses improvement started as early as 1944 with the inception of pulses scheme funded by both ICAR and state. Keeping in view, the growing demand and importance of legumes, the center was upgraded as section of Economic Botanist (legumes) in 1962. This section was again strengthened by ICAR providing All India Coordinated Pulses Improvement Project in 1966. Multidisciplinary research approach started in 1972 after getting recognition as main center to solve the problems of pulse cultivation for mainly Bundelkhand and central plain zone of Uttar Pradesh. Later on, center was further strengthened by ICAR sanctioning AICRP on Pigeonpea and AICRP on MULLaRP as sub center on 28-11-2000 and 20-11-2000 respectively. Legumes section of this university has contributed significantly by developing number of outstanding varities of pulses. Pulses varities of this center are not only popular at state level but recognized at national level. University area jurisdiction has three agro-climatic zones namely; south western plain zone center plain zone and Bundelkhand zone comprising 28 districts. These zones contribute 72 and 20 percent pulse production in the basket of state and national levels respectively.
