Position:
Assistant Director General (EPD), ICAR, New Delhi (last 6 years)
looking after execution, evaluation and monitoring of Strengthening
and Development of Agricultural Education / Agricultural
Universities in the country. Education: Brought improved
teaching learning environment in Agricultural Universities
by modernizing academic facilities & updating
infrastructure; conceptualized and implemented first time
new programmes like Niche Areas Excellence, Experiential
Learning, Centers of Faculty Training, Modernization of
Instructional Farms, National Talent Scholarships, and
Overseas Fellowship; associated with (i) restructuring
course curricula with emphasis on entrepreneurial skill
and excellence for greater employability, (ii) redefining
norms, standards & academic regulations for uniformity across AUs; placed high priority to contemporary
teaching methodology; multimedia; central instrument laboratories
and enhancing faculty competence in the capacity of Assistant
Director General (Education Planning & Development), ICAR, New Delhi Research: Developed farmer friendly IPM for major
vegetable crops; discovery of baculo virus in eggplant
fruit borer for the first time; developing a versatile
technique for staining insects inside plant tissues; ready
reckners for pest management decisions in vegetable crops
for the first time; and identification of sources of resistance
in chilies against thrips and in brinjal against jassids.
Science Management: Implemented new international programmes
like Indo CABI program on biosystematics, bio control and information services, and ICAR IRPM
USDA Joint project on insecticide resistance etc. Started
new national programmes like Network project on Heliothis
management; National Network on Zygogramma for parthenium
control and on American Serpentine leaf miner.
