1. |
Training & visit
Scheme |
This
Project is financed by the State Government with
the objectives of providing regular technical support to field staff. The main activities carried out in
this project are organization of monthly work shops pre-seasonal workshop diagnostic visits and development of suitable literature. The Directorate of Extension organized nine monthly workshops with the participation JDAs, DDAs, SOAEOs, DAO, etc. A total of 303 officers representing six administrative division viz. Lucknow, Kanpur, Agra, Jhansi, Chitrakoot Dham, Allahabad and Scientist participated in monthly workshops during 2002-03. Monthly workshops are strong mechanism of reviewing the progress of last month and developing strategy for ensuing month.
Under
this project three pre-seasonal workshops were
also organised (Kharif, Rabi and Zaid) during 2002-03 in order to finalize production strategy for entire crop season. A total of 544 agricultural officers attended pre seasonal workshops.

Research
Extension Linkage Project: |
Diversified
Agriculture Support Project, Uttar Pradesh (A
world bank funded project) has sanctioned this
project to the university in order to strengthen
extension units of the university in project
districts and for closer linkage of research
and extension system. Following programmes are
regularly organized under this project. |

3. |
Krishi
Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) |
| |
Seventeen
KVKs sponsored by Indian council of Agril Research
are established in district Fatehpur, Aligarh,
Raibareli, Jhansi, Mathura, Mainpuri, Daleepnagar
(Kanpur Dehat), Belatal (Mahoba), Jalaun, Hamirpur,
Lalitpur, Firozabad, Farrukhabad, Hardoi, Lakhimpur-kheri,
Kannauj, Etawah and Banda. The KVKs have been working
for imparting vocational and in service training,
on farm testing of technologies & carrying out field extension programmes. The KVKs also collaborate with district
level line departments and other projects like
DASP, DRDA, U.P. Land Development Corporation,
NGOs etc for transfer of related technologies.
During
the year 2005-06, 24271 farmers and farmwomen
were trained by organizing 834 on campus
and off campus training programmes. 3046
extension workers of different depts.
were also trained by organizing 135 programmes. |

KVK
centres also conducted and organized 58 field
days, 203 Krishak Gosthies and 11 Kisan Mela
at different places. 23147 farmers, farm women
and extension workers attended such programmes
organized by KVKs. |

Front Line Demonstrations were laid out on different
oilseeds and pulses in Kharif and Rabi. |
c. |
709.96
qt. of certified and foundation seeds of different
crops were produced by KVKs at their own farms
in Kharif-2005 and 1531.85 qt. in Rabi 2005-06
keeping in view the location specific demands
of seeds in different districts. |
d. |
The
concept of crop cafeteria has been truly adopted
by each KVK. Each KVK exhibited new crop varieties
and technologies facilitating the farmers to
see the exhibits and select the best options
on the basis of performance and suitability to
their socio-economic conditions. |
e. |
Each
KVK adopted one village of seed village and other
as Bio-village for promoting the concept of seed
production and organic farming at farmers’ level. |

| 4. |
Krishi
Gyan Kendra (KGKs) |
| |
Krishi
Gyan Kendra are established in 9 distts. viz. Farrukhabad,
Jalaun, Hamirpur, Firozabad, Hardoi, Lakhimpur
Khiri, Unnao, Sitapur and Etah to disseminate agricultural
technologies KGKs are running with the financial
assistance of Govt. of U.P. The salient achievements
of KGKs for the year 2005-06 is given below :

in different aspects of crop production & livestock management by organizing 147 training programmes.

demonstrations were laid out on farmer’s fields on cereals, pulses, oilseeds and vegetable crops.

16 field days. |

Each
centre has adopted one village as Seed Village
for creating awareness about quality seed production
and the other village as Bio-Village for making
farmers aware about organic farming.

| 5. |
Farmer's
Technical Training |
Three
days technical training programme are being organised
in all the 28 districts of area jurisdiction of
CSAU with the objectives of improving skills of
at least one farmer from each village in the area
of crop & livestock management. The trained farmers would work later on as contact farmers
between the village & the university. 2850 farmers were trained by organizing 30 training programmes
during 2005-2006.

District
Level Subject Matter Specialists |
One
subject matter specialist for each district has
been posted by the university in Agra, Sitapur,
Lucknow and Aligarh. They are collaborating in
different extension programmes being carried out
by deptt. of Agril. & line deptts. along with carrying out different extension programmes at their
own.

Kisan
Mela / Exhibition: |
| i. |
Two
All India Kisan Mela and Agricultural Industrial
Exhibitions were organized during 3-6 Oct., 2005
and 3-6 March, 2006 at the Kanpur campus of the
university. More than 35000 farmers visited each
Kisan Mela. The highlights of the fair were technological
displays made by faculty of Agriculture, Home Science
and Agricultural Engineering of the university.
About 100-110 agencies and firms engaged in agril.
input, implements machinery and feed management
participated & put up stalls for exhibiting their products in both farmers’ fairs.

These
two fairs were also visited by agricultural entrepreneur,
Minister of Agriculture, U.P.; State Home Minister,
Govt. of India; DG, UPCAR; Agriculture Production
Commissioner; Commissioner, Kanpur divisions and
District Magistrates of Kanpur division. The quality
seed to the tune of Rs. 12.00 lakhs in October
fair and Rs. 4.50 lakh in March fair was purchased
by farmer.

Thus,
Kisan mela and Agricultural industrial exhibition
proved a major source of transmitting innovative
technologies to the farmers. Visit of university
farms arranged during farmer's fair provided on
opportunity to the farmers to practically see the
technologies in field and have interaction with
concerned scientists. Krishak Goshthies & Cultural Programmes organized on each day of the fair, were other highlights
attracting large number of farmers.

| 8. |
Agricultural
Technology Information Centre (ATIC) |
Agricultural
Technology Information Centre (ATIC) sponsored
by Indian council of Agriculture Research, New
Delhi, has been established at the main gate of
the university to provide services through a single
window concept to the farmer's and other clientele
by a team of multidisciplinary experts. The main
objectives of all is to provide diagnostic advisory
and input related services to the farmers. Information
regarding weather and marketing and sale of seeds,
seedlings, mushroom span, etc, are other major
activities performed by ATIC. The progress of ATIC
for the year 2005-06 are as follows.

centre was visited by 4525 farmers for obtaining
advice and inputs like seed, bio fertilizers, planting
materials, milk products etc. |

soil samples and 105 seed samples were tested during
2005-06. |

Household
products, dairy products and farm machinery were
also sold from ATIC. |
| iv. |
Publications
like Krishak Bharti, Periodical literature etc. were
brought out in large quantity and distributed to
farmers. |

Krishak
Help Line Service/Kisan Call center |
The
University has started "Krishak Help Line Service" for providing on line advice to the farming community with the financial support
of Mandi Parishad. Its working hours are 1:00 to
3:00 P.M. daily on every working day of the university.
This cell has been established in the ATIC building
and it operates with the presence of a team of
experts of various disciplines during working hours.
Experts are available to answer the questions of
farmers on toll free phone No. 18001805122. 1675
queries of farmers and other were solved during
2005-06.
Kisan Call center unit established with the financial support of GOI.
The service is available toll free No. 1551 for the farmers for asking
questions from university experts during working days between 10.00 AM
to 17.00 PM. 1170 queries of farmers and other were solved during 2005-06.

Agriculture
Information Bureau: |
In
order to provide information support to farmers
and other entrepreneurs and also to make efficient
and effective linkage with various institutions
/ organizations / agencies the university established
an Agril Information Bureau. It brought out monthly
magazine "Krishak Bharti" and quarterly University News Letter.
15,000 copies of monthly magazine 'Krishak Bharti' were printed and circulated
by the bureau among farmers and other subscribers 1500 copies of the
CSAU News (News letter) were also circulated to State Agricultural Universities,
ICAR Institutions and organization in the country and abroad.
