Agronomy,
an important discipline of Agriculture
Science. It has contributed a-lot
to sustain agriculture production
and productivity of this area.
The department of Agronomy started
during the year 1930 after the
creation of graduate class under
the Govt. Agriculture College,
Kanpur and post graduate studies
in Agronomy was started during
the year 1951. It the year 1969
the status of Govt. Agriculture
College, Kanpur was raised to
the status of U.P. Institute
of Agriculture Science. Again
the Institute up graded to the
status of University named as
Chandra Shekhar Azad University
of Agriculture & Technology,
Kanpur during the 1975 with the
main function of strengthening
of teaching, research and extension
activities. |
The
department of Agronomy has a
credit of producing a large number
great scientists of National
and International fame, administrators
and academicians. This department
was developed the package of
practices of wheat, barley, mustard,
all pulses, sugarcane, oilseed,
rice, maize, groundnut and millet.
The improved package of practices
were transferred on farmers field
from time to time. The main emphasis
of research work was concentrated
to increase fertilizer use efficiency,
irrigation scheduling of crops
and water use efficiency, intercropping,
weed control and dry farming.
A project on Meeorological studies
has been established in the year
1995. It has been enriched with
modern system of weather fore-casts
and responsible to communicate
weather condition every day along
with working plan related to
crops. The experiments under
ECF (Experiments on cultivators
Farm) are to be carried out to
popularize the improved technology
on the farmers field. The need
base researches of the farmers
regarding crops are to be conducted
at the department and their recommendation
transferred on the farmers through
demonstration and Kissan fairs. |
